Spring Morning Bodycare is located in Milwaukee, WI near the shores of Lake Michigan.   The area's prime lake frontage, family farms and tradition of environmental consciousness provide the perfect backdrop for a company dedicated to delivering body care products that are better for you, your family and the environment.

Our Philosophy

We believe in the value of informed choice.  Life is full of trade-offs, personal preferences and varying goals.  By offering you data that is informative but not overwhelming, we can help you achieve your own greener, healthier objectives--and perhaps still have time for a bubble bath. 

For all of our products, we look for independent ingredient ratings from organizations like the Environmental Working Group or the USDA.  Because there may be compromises related to the sensory characteristics of products--such as fragrcnce, color or feel--we also make available consumer comments, to help you make a more informed decision (see the Hairspray Saga below).

We also believe in the value of supporting small, artisan suppliers.  Many people have expressed concern about the sales of natural pioneers to larger corporations, such as Colage Palmolive's acquisition of Toms of Maine.  While this may be a natural phenomenon and brings advantages as well as disadvatages, we believe it is important  to support the next generation of "up and comers" as well.   As our contribution to this effort, we pledge to make ongoing attempts to locate great new sources of products that can provide you with unique, interesting and varied offerings.

Our Consumer Panel

To help ensure that our products meet your expectations, we pre-test as many as possible with our consumer panel.  This consists of a group of people who have been recruited to test and rate the products we carry.  The members live in the climatically diverse states of Wisconsin and Arizona, so we can see how products perform where it is hot and dry, hot and humid or cold.  They include babies, teenagers and grandparents for a variety of perspectives--teenagers definately rate nail colors differently than thier moms do!  Look for their comments at the bottom of the product detail page.

 Our Journey

Our personal journey began over a decade ago.  In 1995, we joined our first subscription farm (CSA) which raised our awareness of eating organically.  We even used glass baby bottles before they were in!

But soon the babies began to grow up and ask for things like lip gloss and nail polish.  Then it got harder.

In the search for better bodycare products, we learned the following:

Finding a company with one good product, then buying everything else from them is risky.  Some companies have both well-rated and poorly-rated products

Learning of a product with a good rating doesn't mean it will be easy (or even possible) to find that product

Finding a well-rated product doesn't mean that you will like it

The Hairspay Saga

My search for hairspray is a good example.  Because this is a product that you also breathe, I was particularly concerned about finding something safe.  I did my research and started with about six candidates.  The first three I could not locate, or the shipping cost was too high.  The next had such a high water content that my hair went limp before it dried.  I loved the fifth, but the EWG changed the rating to one that I consider undesirable before I finished the bottle.  The final hairspray worked well, but you had to "unstick" the sprayer two or three time with each use.  And after my first use, I realized that the "water spots" on my shirt were big spritzes of hairspray that had spotted it for the day.  After a month long research project it was back to the drawing board. 

Of course, it's hardly realistic to expect that most people have the time and energy to undertake such a search.  Especially when you think of the wide variety of products we use over the course of a day!  Spring Morning Bodycare is here to make finding better bodycare easier for you!
